Equipment - Standards - Endpoint Information Technology

Summary

Defines RCCD equipment standards and provides access to the current approved hardware list, supporting consistent, secure, and supportable technology purchases across the district.

Body

Overview

Riverside Community College District (RCCD) Technology Support Services (TSS) establishes and maintains equipment standards to ensure technology deployed throughout the district meets institutional requirements for security, compatibility, performance, supportability, and lifecycle management. Standardized equipment improves operational efficiency, simplifies technical support, and ensures compliance with district technology and cybersecurity standards.

Equipment Standards Reference

The current RCCD Equipment Standards and approved device configurations can be found in the following document:

Technology standards are reviewed periodically and may be updated to reflect operational, security, and support requirements. Always refer to the current version of the spreadsheet when planning technology purchases.

Note: Pricing listed in the RCCD Equipment Standards spreadsheet is provided for planning and budgetary purposes only and does not include tax and shipping. Actual pricing may vary and is subject to change at the time of quote or purchase.

Equipment Standards Objectives

RCCD equipment standards are designed to:

  • Ensure Compatibility: Maintain consistency across district-supported hardware and software platforms.
  • Enhance Security: Deploy devices that support modern security controls, including Microsoft Intune management, BitLocker encryption, and Microsoft Defender security features.
  • Improve Supportability: Standardize equipment models and configurations to streamline deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and replacement.
  • Optimize Total Cost of Ownership: Reduce support and procurement costs through lifecycle planning and standardized purchasing.
  • Support Business and Academic Operations: Provide reliable computing resources that meet the needs of faculty, staff, and instructional environments.

Endpoint Device Standards

RCCD-supported endpoint devices must meet district-approved specifications and be procured through authorized purchasing channels.

  • Standard Business Devices: Desktop and laptop computers are selected from approved enterprise-class manufacturers and configurations that meet district performance and security requirements.
  • Device Management: All district-owned endpoints must be enrolled in Microsoft Intune for centralized configuration, compliance monitoring, software deployment, and security management.
  • Encryption Requirements: Devices must utilize BitLocker full-disk encryption to protect institutional data and comply with RCCD security standards.
  • Lifecycle Management: Endpoint devices are generally evaluated for replacement based on age, warranty status, performance, and operational needs.

Peripheral Standards

Peripheral devices must be compatible with district-supported technology platforms and approved for use by TSS.

  • Monitors: Standard monitor configurations are selected to support productivity, accessibility, and workspace requirements.
  • Docking Stations: Approved docking stations provide consistent connectivity and support for district-issued laptops.
  • Input Devices: Keyboards, mice, webcams, headsets, and other peripherals must meet district compatibility and support requirements.
  • Printers and Multifunction Devices: Printing equipment is standardized and managed to ensure security, efficiency, and cost control.

Exceptions and Special Requests

Requests for non-standard equipment may be considered when justified by business, instructional, accessibility, or operational requirements.

  • Exception requests must include a documented business justification.
  • TSS will evaluate supportability, security implications, procurement considerations, and compatibility with existing district systems.
  • Approval of non-standard equipment is not guaranteed and may require additional administrative review.

Conclusion

RCCD equipment standards provide a consistent framework for technology acquisition, deployment, support, and lifecycle management. By standardizing hardware and peripherals, enforcing security requirements, and maintaining centralized management practices, TSS ensures reliable, secure, and supportable technology resources across the district.
